Indexes to the U.S. 1910 Census

Data for each person in the index includes surname, given name, age, sex, race and birthplace (usually country or state only). Also included to identify where the person lives is county, locality, roll number, part and page number. Any data field can be used by the search engine. The search engine has many search features--too many to enumerate here--but does have exact match, include and exclude facilities. Multiple search parameters in an "and" relationship are allowed. Operates on IBM-compatible PCs only.

Russians to America (1850-1896) edited by Ira Glazier

An index from the original ships' passenger lists the only records that furnish proof of the arrival in the United States of some 430,000 immigrants from the Russian Empire. Included for each person is name, age, sex, occupation, country of origin, ship's name and port of departure, last residence (if given) and final destination. Note: Examination of the CD does not show any records after June, 1895. Avotaynu Back Issues on CD-ROM

During the past 24 years, AVOTAYNU has developed a reputation for being a must-read publication for persons doing Jewish genealogical research and has even been extolled by the general genealogical community for its articles of interest to anyone, Jewish and non-Jewish, with Central or Eastern European ancestry. The 81 issues published between 1985 and 2005 include more than 2,600 articles--2.6 million words. (See our index to the first 21 volumes for a list of the articles.)

Using back issues of AVOTAYNU as a research tool has been encumbered by the difficulty of locating articles of interest and the cost of printed copies of back issues, now more than $300. Both the search and cost obstacles have now been overcome. Avotaynu has published all back issues thru 2005 on CD-ROM; it is available in Windows only. Using a searching tool, which includes full-word indexing, every word of every back issue of AVOTAYNU is accessible. If in all the articles there is only one mention of a town or a surname, the search engine will find it. By specifying key words or combinations of key words, the CD-ROM version will locate any article that includes all the words.

Important Notice! The application only works on a PC; there is no Mac version. Installation requires online registration; the system will not work unless it is registered. The registration process freezes the application to only one computer.
