Nu?
What's New? Gary Mokotoff, Editor Volume 13, Number 7a | February 14, 2012 Every
government puts value on preserving its history. That is why we have
national archives. Genealogy preserves history; the history of a
family. It cannot be done without access to records, just as historians
cannot preserve a nation's history without access to records. It is a
greater good than the right to privacy. It is a greater good than the
risk of identity theft.

Have you signed the petition that hopefully will save the Social Security Death Index? The deadline is March 8. It is important that the genealogical community meet the goal to have 25,000 people sign the petition. If it is not met, it demonstrates to lawmakers that genealogists do not care about legislation regarding access to birth, marriage and death records and other records vital to our research. There have been reports that some people are having trouble with the website. Just remember that the watchword of genealogy is “persistence and patience.” Continue until you have successful registered your vote. Directions: Go to http://tinyurl.com/6w2lf7p to sign the petition. It is a little complex but worth the time. If you have never signed a petition of this type before, you must register. Click the “Create an Account” button. After filling in the form, you will receive a validating e-mail to the address you specified. Follow the instructions of the e-mail to go back to a verifying site that now will allow you to sign the petition. Come back to the petition site and now Sign In. Now click the “Sign This Petition Button.” If these instructions do not work, RPAC has more detailed instructions at http://fgs.org/pdf/rpac_petition.pdf. |
