Dear Friends:

For the 18th consecutive year, we will be taking a group of Jewish genealogists on a research trip to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Previous trips were immense successes. People were able to spend a week of concentrated research on their family histories with our guidance and assistance. It was not only a successful genealogical trip but a pleasant social experience.

This year we again offer the opportunity to do research under the guidance of two world-renowned Jewish genealogists who have been doing research at the Family History Library for more than 25 years. Join us. You will enrich your genealogy and make new friends.

Gary Mokotoff and Eileen Polakoff

WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS TRIP?
More than just a "Trip Package", this carefully planned genealogical adventure includes pre-trip literature, individual research consultations, and knowledgeable professional genealogists to guide you. All experience levels will benefit. Beginners, as well as intermediate and advanced researchers, will gain expertise in the use of a wide variety of resources and research strategies. You will accomplish much more when you can immerse yourself in research for a week, away from phones, work and everyday interruptions. The companionship of other genealogists makes this experience enjoyable as well as beneficial.

Our first meeting as a group will take place on Thursday, October 14 at 5:30 pm and the last "official" meeting of the group will end on Wednesday evening, October 20, at 5:00 pm. Make whatever travel arrangements you need when appropriate. If you would like to arrange for extra days, before or after the group week, please let us know. Some individuals find it beneficial to arrive a day early to acclimate themselves to the altitude in Salt Lake and be ready to go on Thursday evening. If you are interested in this let us know and we will arrange the group rate for the extra night(s) and add it to your total due.

ABOUT THE FAMILY HISTORY LIBRARY
The largest genealogical library in the world is an enjoyable, comfortable place to do research. More than 2.5 million rolls of microfilmed records and 250,000 books are available for your research. There are hundreds of microfilm readers, and each floor has machines for copying microfilm, microfiche and paper. Each floor has computer stations with access to the Internet. Jump on to JewishGen, check your e-mail or access certain fee-for-service sites at no cost. Detailed information about the library will be provided to each registrant before the trip. You might have hesitated to venture there on your own, but with the guidance you will receive on a trip like this, you can enjoy using the Library's many rich resources.

On your first evening in Salt Lake City, you will be trained in how to use the Family Search computer system, especially the Locality Catalog which is the catalog of the holdings of the Family History Library. You will use the catalog to search by town, state/province and country. It will tell you what subjects exist for the locality (for example, Jewish, Immigration and Emigration, Census, Civil Registration, Vital Records, etc.).
